World Congress of Muslim Librarian and Information Scientist (wCOMLIS) 2008



The World Congress of Muslim Librarians and Information Scientists (wCOMLIS) is continuation of the Congress of Muslim Librarians and Information Scientists (COMLIS) one of the congresses that gather information professionals (consisting of librarians, information scientists, information managers, etc) from Islamic and non-Islamic countries all over the world.

The objectives of the conference are:

  • To function as an effective and relevant forum to empower and to enrich Muslim librarians.
  • To enhance cooperation, networking and information sharing amongst libraries in the Muslim world.
  • To be updated on current library and information developments in the Muslim world.
  • To work towards the establishment of guidelines and standards designed to improve library and information sciences in the Muslim world.
  • To develop wCOMLIS 2008 as a source of strength and cooperation for the development of libraries and information professionals in the Muslim world.

ISO 9001:2000 in Academic Libraries


Nuria Balague Mola has compeleted her PhD thesis on "The use of ISO 9001 quality standard in higher education insitution libraries". The article (summary of the thesis) described the findings on libraries education insitutions that have received ISO certification. She examined reasons for seeking certification and the advantages and difficulties encountered by the libraries in applying ISO standard. She also touched on the future prospects of ISO standard 9001 in academic libraries. The results were based on 121 libraries from various countries including Malaysia.
